Awards 2008
To reward and recognise the outstanding achievements that individuals and communities have made in sport, community, the arts and heritage, the Leisure Awards 2008 took place on 11 March 2008 at Epworth Leisure Centre.
The event this year was a huge success with even more categories being added for awards. The event was enjoyed by all; the nominees, the nominators, our partners and the staff involved.
We had two special guests this year, each to represent a different area of leisure.
First of all was Jenna Downing who began inline skating for fun at a young age, went pro at 12, and is now a Great British champion. Jenna came 2nd in the 2002 X-Games, has recently starred in a music video and is a character in a video game. Jenna talked to local young people about her achievements and showed them her medals.
Our second guest Karen Coupland is the Managing Director and founder of Cupola Contemporary Art Ltd in Sheffield. This is a gallery specialising in selling quality contemporary art and hosts up to ten exhibitions a year. Karen is also a lecturer for Sheffield Hallam University and Manchester University, and is a freelance business mentor.
